About me
My name is Madelaine and I’m that girl who’s always posting from a different location every time you see me on Instagram. I love travelling! I love discovering new places, indulging in new foods, witnessing cultural experiences and overall seeing what the world has to offer.
If you’re looking for advice about travelling with a budget (not the tightest budget of course), finding culturally-oriented experiences and how to be a safe independent traveller then you’ve arrived at the right place.
Why Travel?
Most people ask why I love travelling so much. The easiest answer is that I like to be anywhere BUT work. But that’s not the whole truth. I have always been interested in travelling and the world specifically in different cultures, people, nature and overall anything history related. My childhood was full of reading fiction and non fictional books. I had a huge interest in nature (big shout out to Sir David Attenborough), Ancient Egypt and the history of Africa as a whole as well as the Romans and Black history. I was lucky enough to have parents that encouraged me to continuously learn and gather more knowledge on my favourite topics. They would also take me to exhibitions, museums and pretty much anything that had a history or cultural element in because that’s how you make “well rounded children” in a country where school doesn’t teach you everything. My mum had also studied African/Black history so encouraged me to attend events where they’d talk about the history before slavery – the ancestors, the stories that were passed on through generations and those facts that aren’t taught in schools. Additionally, I had travelled international several times in my childhood especially to Kenya where I’m from. My parents made sure I saw the good, the bad and the ugly so that I understood why certain things were different in other countries. Kenya has taught me so much that I will have to dedicate multiple posts to her.
Solo Trips in my 20s
My first solo trips came in my mid 20s when I decided that I couldn’t keep waiting for other people to be ready and that I needed to “grow up”. I travelled many times alone to the USA but that wasn’t completely independent as my cousin (and best friend) lives there. My first completely solo trips were as I was turning 25 as I had decided that now my “frontal lobe is supposably fully developed” I shouldn’t be scared anymore to travel solo. Turns out it’s okay to be scared but that shouldn’t put you off doing the things you want to do. My trip to Canada and the Bahamas by myself changed my brain chemistry and I came back a different person.
Life
Outside of travelling, I work a regular job with shift work in London, UK. Unfortunately I’m not rich enough to leave my day job so that is what I do most days. Alongside working, I enjoy anything fitness related and try to stay “bikini ready” at all times. I like to see my friends, eat out at a range of restaurants, try new things and participate in anything to do with nature.

Travel Advice
I’m quite known to give good advice on a range of subjects. But since the beginning of 2025, the questions have just kept coming. Is solo travel hard? Did you feel safe? What country should I go to first? What do you recommend? So I decided to start this blog to answer the never-ending questions and share my experiences and stories. This blog isn’t just for people who want to know their next destination, but it’s for those who never travelled before, those who are scared to venture out of the UK, those who don’t know how to pack a suitcase or what to even buy. You get the point!! This blog is for everyone!
Where to start….
It’s always great to follow me on my social media (specifically Instagram) to keep updated on my travel but also when my blog posts are out. But you could also subscribe to this blog as you’ll be notified when I post.
